About this indicator

What it measures

Annual change in midyear population, calculated as an exponential growth rate and expressed as a percentage.

How to interpret it

Positive values indicate population growth and negative values indicate decline, reflecting births, deaths, and migration.

Important limitation

It is not the number of people added. Population estimates and census revisions can change the rate.

Year-on-year change compares consecutive observed years only. Percentage-based indicators show percentage-point differences; other indicators show percentage change. Missing values remain missing.
